Glacio strongly believes that HSE and corporate social responsibility are vital not only for the company’s clients and employees, but also for our reputation, development and profitability.
The company’s principal measures focus on developing the expertise of its employees and organising the company’s operations in a responsible and environmentally friendly way. The company also supports a number of external causes.
Our environmental goal: By 2025, Glacio Transport will cut its CO2 emissions per kilometre by 50% compared with the level in 2017.
This goal will be achieved through:
Continuous follow-up and improvement of the drivers' driving style.
The use of plant-based biodiesel (HVO) in our equipment. HVO offers an 80% reduction in CO2 emissions per litre of diesel compared with ordinary diesel.
The use of vehicles powered by alternative energy sources when they are commercially competitive.
Our priority list of energy sources in descending order:
Electricity
Hydrogen
Bioethanol
Biogas
Biodiesel
Diesel
By the end of 2020, 85% of our vehicles will meet the EURO 6 standard, and by the end of 2021 the entire fleet will meet the EURO 6 standard.
Health, Safety and Environment
Our work relating to health is based around our internal controls and quality procedures. Most of our employees work in very cold environments, in amongst high racks or in trucks out on the road. This places exacting demands on safety at the workplace. The key to good HSE is thorough training for all the company’s employees, along with appropriate procedures and support systems.
Glacio Transport has participated in the programme being run by the Norwegian Truck Owners Association (Norges Lastebileierforbund) entitled "On the right side" with the aim of improving road safety, working environments and environmental impact in connection with the training and monitoring of drivers. The programme involves training in passive and economical driving practices and, according to the Norwegian Truck Owners Association, companies affiliated to the programme experience fewer accidents, lower rates of absence due to illness and consume less fuel than non-participants. Glacio Transport has also invested in a digital monitoring system which logs numerous parameters relating to driving style, such as sudden braking, rapid acceleration, idling, etc. The system, together with the raising of personal awareness and follow-up, is producing good results within the fields of environment and safety. Less than a year since the start-up, fuel consumption has been cut by 10% compared with before the programme began. The company's costs concerning damage and insurance have also decreased significantly.
Corporate social responsibility
We support the following organisations:
Orphanage in South Africa. Annual monetary donation.
Norwegian Air Ambulance. Annual monetary donation.
Close to our head office at Alvim in Sarpsborg, we support a local kindergarten and a primary school by providing safety equipment for children in the form of the annual distribution of reflectors, vests and other similar equipment.
Although we support a number of selected external organisations, we believe that our most important contribution within the area of corporate social responsibility is to reduce road accidents and injuries. Accidents have enormous negative consequences for society, and this is where we can make a difference.
